2025Contour Lines Sid Motion Gallery

Contour Lines’, a group exhibition a Sid Motion presented in collaboration with Tom Cole features Rana Begum, Lubna Chowdhary, Prunella Clough, Elizabeth Fritsch, Kate Newby, Vicken Parsons, Jacqueline Poncelet and Max Wade.

The exhibition explores how different ideas of landscape and place are communicated through pattern and abstraction in a range of mediums. Using ceramics, textiles and paint, a host of sites ranging from the urban, rural, metaphysical and imagined are all explored through interweaving languages and histories. Often the landscapes come through as nuanced impressions, suggested through blocks of colour, memories served up in brushwork. Elsewhere scraps from the peripheries of our environment coalesce in organic forms, an intimate and personal land art. These are in contrast to more everyday languages, referencing domestic interiors and the industrial past and present. Histories mix with illusion, as space twists between two and three dimensions, conjuring architectural spaces. The presentation of place or landscape in these hands becomes less a form of cultural archive and more a sensory experience, picking and prodding at how we orient ourselves in the world.
